A world gone mad!

Since last week, I started to feel the weight of having a dissenting view. Some comments I was getting were truly violent and spoke volumes on the polarization of public opinion. I started getting paranoid, fearing some repercussion of my blogging on my real life...And that is what happened. So for a while, I preferred to remain silent rather than feeling threatened. But I believe that if I do not stand by my principals, one can no longer claim to be free. And for me nothing is as sacred as freedom of speech.

So while I called for an end of violence, of bloodshed and death I was branded not Lebanese enough! I called to stand with our government and with our PM Siniora and I am branded thus! This is truly a world gone mad!! And that hurts so much, because I love my country more than anything and I want it to become strong, free and independent and no longer a playground for the war of others.

So here is my blog and that is me! If you do not like what I say: argue, comment or disagree and even boycott me, but if we can no longer have a decent discussion than we are truly lost…

Unity? What unity?

I have been calling for peace and for putting internal pressure on Hezbollah to stop its violence, and now it seems that Hezbollah is the one pressuring the rest of us. People criticized me for offering a dissenting opinions and supposedly shattering our unity, while the pro Hezbollah forces in Lebanon and outside have been waging a fierce campaign against all the different factions. Nassrallah to Najah Wakim and all the rest of these guys, they have been attacking all those who stand against them, or have not supported Hezbollah, totally vilifying them, calling them traitors and maybe soon burning them at the stake.

It is shame, and it gives you a snap shot of what will happen if Hezbollah wins… the end of Democracy, the end of freedom of press and the end of Lebanon. Some of you will bombard me with comments saying look at Israel it is destroying Lebanon and killing its people, and if Hezbollah loses then we will be humiliated. That might be true. But this is reality and reality sucks. Nothing is totally black or white. All is gray and dripping with blood. Both prospects of this war are a nightmare; there is no solution that benefits us, the people of Lebanon. Everything benefits some external power. Iran or the USA. Israel or Syria. Our country is once more the battle ground for foreign powers using internal pawns.

Does this mean that I support Israel!! Not at all, as I repeatedly said earlier, I condemn all kind of violence, especially when it target civilians, no matter what are the reasons. And Israel methods of using excessive violence, targeting innocent and destroying infrastructure is beyond justification and have been one of the reasons, among many others, that we are in this mess that keeps getting messier…

So where is the solution? I do not know, I am tired, I am sick of this whole thing and I feel helpless. Every time I call for peace I feel like I am committing high treason.
I feel that the county have been destroyed and its soul is slowly being poisoned, by hate, by fundamentalism. More and more people have picked up the rhetoric of war and violence. And people are still being killed, infrastructures is till being vaporized and Hezbollah are till being portrayed as heroes, with no end to violence in sight.

Real peace is the only way. All parties internal and external must understand that we do not care for any ideologies, religions, or dreams of grandeur. Let them keep their battle for the whole Umma, and their fantasies of destruction and death. We are sick of all this. We want peace and we want it now! No more war, not with Israel or Syria or anyone else. Nothing gets accomplished through violence nothing but death.

At the end it does not matter who is to blame and who started this, all what matter is that if you stop believing in peace, no matter how much it hurts at the moment, then we and our beloved country are really lost.

Blaming Peace

It seems I am being criticized by many Bloggers, Lebanese and others because I am calling for peace. I was even asked by some to go live in Israel…
Let me tell you that I am here to stay and I want to live in a strong and definite country that will never be used again, by anyone in the world, to settle accounts or wage their wars.

Second I ask all those who hurled their attacks and insult: what do they want me to do?
What will make me fit their mold, what should my position be? Some asked me to show unity? What does this mean?
Should I cheer every time Hezbollah attacks Israel?
Should I laugh hysterically when Israel civilian dies?
What should I do?
Enlighten me?

I will tell you how I think and act: I never stood by passively and complained about what is happening!
No! I said and always will say that I abhor all killing of civilian there is no excuse for that! None what so ever! Israeli killings, Hezbollah’s, American, Iraqi You name it!
And I understand that help is needed and I am doing what I can, but this is only dealing with consequences, forgoing the real causes. And unfortunately this means that we will have to endure this cycle of death and destruction once more…

So I cannot accept to stand by and only blame Israel, because this will not end the killing. Of course Israel is to blame and no killing is acceptable! But so is Hezbollah! And if we do not accept this fact then we will never end the violence! In two or three years it will start all over again! I do not accept to endure all this destruction and death just so that in a couple of years it will start again! I will not accept it! Not for the sack of religion, Arabism or any other obsolete concept!
I believe in a strong, democratic and pluralistic and most importantly peaceful Lebanon. And this can only happen if we decide all together to forsake violence forever!

How can this happen?
Easy follow your lawful government! PM Siniora stated that the army should be sent to the south to control the border, and asked for an immediate cease fire. Hezbollah refused!!!!

We, you and me hold the solution, pressure Hezbollah, and make them understand that we will not accept any more violence. No more death! You are fighting the wrong battle, pressuring Israel never worked nor did fighting it! We should learn from the past! Death and destruction only lead to more death and destruction, 60 years of wars and tragedies proves that fact, and I was here in 93 and 96! And violence stopped at that time because Lebanon had an exceptional man who brokered a treaty! He is dead! So now we have to act ourselves! Pressure Hezbollah, peacefully and actively! So that our children will not have to go through all this again!
Israel is here to stay! Deal with it! Pressuring Hezbollah is the only way.

So if any of you has any other ideas to stop the killing I am all ears!

Call for peace, Believe in Peace! even in these difficult times…

It is time to choose!

It is time to choose!

You are with the state of Lebanon or with the resistance!
You are with reconstruction or with destruction!
With peace or war!

Choose! And choose now. There is no neutrality any more, no more calls for unity or the like. The resistance or Hezbollah lead us to all this, without even asking our permission. No more! I will not accept this to happen again in two or three years. I want a sovereign state of Lebanon with only one army and a defined border, that live in peace, democracy and prosperity!

Stand by the government of Lebanon, support it, and support your PM Siniora. We want a strong democratic state, and the only way to accomplish that is through a fair peace with Israel. Now!

If Lebanon has a hero then it is Siniora

If Lebanon has a hero then it is Siniora
If Lebanon want to be a country than follow him
If we want to get out of this catastrophe THAN FOLLOW HIM and DO AS HE SAID

Immediate cease fire
The Lebanese army to the south
And no more violence! Violence only begets more violence! we need to break this vicious cycle! Once and for all!

God Bless you Siniora
You are a hell of a statesman!

Peace

Undersige thanks to Hezballah

Nassrallah has just condemned us all! On a whim or a premeditated plan, we are condemned!

Day are starting to look alike… a kind of limbo, we are alive but not really. I wake up aimless, eat but the food is tasteless…Panic is setting in but so are the old war habits, long lines in front of bakeries, fuel stations and groceries, people are hoarding goods like there is no tomorrow, and maybe there will not be… But at least the electricity is still on, four hours a day, but I fear not for long.

What is next…more death…destruction…But what befuddled me was those people exuberant with joy who drove around in their cars because Hezbollah hit an Israeli warship. Unbelievable we are getting destroyed back in to the Stone Age and they are happy… Good for them…just do not cry when our country is utterly destroyed, you want war than you should accept its consequences, and you should bear them alone, not make a whole people bear them with you…

All what I feel is intense anger against Hezbollah… and all who stand by them…

Peace Now

While shells are falling a few miles away from my home, I cannot but remember this afternoon, while I was driving back home from Beirut Hezbollah sympathizer where offering passerby cookies and candies!

While my ear rings from the sound of explosions I cannot but see the firecrackers Hezbollah sympathizer where launching this afternoon rejoicing in their “great victory”

And tomorrow when I will see the bridge, linking my home town of Saida to Beirut, destroyed and I will only scream from the bottom of my heart: Enough! Enough wars, death and destruction! Curse you Hezbollah to hell and back! For all this destruction, for all this death! No it is not Israel fault! It is your own! Curse you!

We cannot continue on this path! People build and teach and try to live peacfully, while others think only of death, destruction and war… the time has come to stand and say one word: PEACE

I want peace now! I do not care for your ideologies, or your lines drawn on maps! For your religions! For anything! PEACE NOW!
