Peace Now

While shells are falling a few miles away from my home, I cannot but remember this afternoon, while I was driving back home from Beirut Hezbollah sympathizer where offering passerby cookies and candies!

While my ear rings from the sound of explosions I cannot but see the firecrackers Hezbollah sympathizer where launching this afternoon rejoicing in their “great victory”

And tomorrow when I will see the bridge, linking my home town of Saida to Beirut, destroyed and I will only scream from the bottom of my heart: Enough! Enough wars, death and destruction! Curse you Hezbollah to hell and back! For all this destruction, for all this death! No it is not Israel fault! It is your own! Curse you!

We cannot continue on this path! People build and teach and try to live peacfully, while others think only of death, destruction and war… the time has come to stand and say one word: PEACE

I want peace now! I do not care for your ideologies, or your lines drawn on maps! For your religions! For anything! PEACE NOW!

PEACE

Thanks for that moving snapshot Ibrahim. Just included it at my site in my running blog round-up on the goings-on in the old country (I'm from Beirut, and was in Saida in 2000).

Hey, Ibrahim.
I saw your blog at Ma'ariv newspaper.
Just wanted to support you, and explain our actions of war.
We only want peace. we always want peace. There's noone to speak to, at your side. We always asked your government to disarm the Hezbollah, or at least protect the border from your side. They didn't do anything. Now, we don't have any choice. I hope that Hezbollah will surrender and end this war. In any case I hope that no more civilians will get hurt by our attacks, On both sides.

you took one hell of a mission, Bob!
I guess that we both understand that we live on this earth once and there is no time for wars. Nature can kill us all in one strike and all of the ideologies will go to hell. I was a soldier when the PLO was governing the south of Lebanon, and teasing us in Israel daily, until we couldn't anymore in '82. The People of Lebanon welcomed the Israeli army with candies and rice. Unfortunately the Israeli Intelligence made a horrible mistake and underestimated the Shiaits then, and overestimated the stamina and capablities of the christians in Lebanon, so we got the Hezbollah as a punishment. My point is that both of us, the want-to-live Lebanees and Israelis have to find a way to stop the non-sovereignt terrorists in Lebanon and strangthen the state of Lebanon as part of the free world. Unfortunately I visited Lebanon as an Israeli soldier in 82-3-4-5 and I was amased with the beauty of it and until now I suffer because I had to see it and its wonderful peolple behind a gun. Since then I have a wish to visit as a tourist and a nighbour. The only Lebanees friends I have are living in London and L.A. (Samaha family from Beirut) and I always hope, at least for practical reasons, that I could have them in Lebanon so I could visit them more.
But it will take a lot of effort to be strong self-minded state that can decide for itself who are its real good partners to share with, and yes... I definitely think that we are among them.
Bob, we sincerely applaude you for the courage to say what a free person should say and we wish that as little as possible will get harmed in this attempt to stop those terrorists. We hope that there are many people in Lebanon smart, brave and outgoing as you are.
We all are very excited and moved by you. Your letter was published in a major newspaper in Israel. Hope to visit you soon.
Raanan & sharon.

Bob,
I will take peace any time, any day. But true peace ...

What you are calling for is Surrender now. Does surrendering imply peace?

Bob:

As a supporter of the 'Jooooos', I was expecting the worst when I got here but have come away with an admiration of your bravery and courage.

If Arab countries had more folks like you, they wouldn't be the murderous shitholes that they are.

God Bless,
Joseph

Hey Bob,

Just read your blog, you're a good guy, this world needs people like yourself. I hope things aren't that bad where you are. Stay out of danger and don't take any unnecessary risks, wait for things to cool down, they will.

Best Wishes

Thank you all, your comment warms my heart…

And Jooj
Know that peace is never surrender…
Hezbollah lead us into this then he must rectify the situation and unmake his mistake, better now than tomorrow cause people are dying and the country is being destroyed…

Bob.. go live in israel you silly ZOB.
The yahoud love you from their comments.
You want peace? go take a cold shower, that region never had peace ever since civilisation started.
I mean look at the jews... they left after their arses got kicked repeatedly over centuries until they met their friendly abuser Hitler. They reinvited themselves to their god gifted land just like flies when they smell a stinking shit and then managed to make all their neighbours hate them.

thx MAZe
For your sensibiltiy and care
I am really ashamed that Israelis who left their comment on my blog care more for my safety than you do
thx a lot

You want to fight come and join Hezbollah but I DO NOT WANT TO, it is my right. I want peace so take your abuses and condescending tone to Al manar Tv. I want to live, work, have a family. so take your silly wars elsewhere, and leave me in peace...and stay in your save country judging people who are surrounded by bombs and death

again thx you MAZe for your very sensible comment

PEACE NOW and DOWN WITH HEZBALLAH

newspaper..ah so that's why israeli have been flooding the lebanese forum.. 2oltooooleeeeeeh!

Anonymous said...

Bob.. i wish all lebanese people the best of care and safety.

For that matter, i agree with you with your HA opinion. I mean what they did is prove that they're nothing but puppets and they're stepping into big shoes that they can't fill. very reckless and unwarranted.

also, if you read the other yahoudi comments, you'll see they want peace too but under their conditions. it's a two way street.

who made HA successful? israel
who put 500,000 refugess in leb? israel
who hasn't responded to all UN resoultions? israel
there's a long list of reasons which i am happy to share with you.

not to say that the arabs are not complicit, just a look at the governments in place... they speak for themselves. they're still in the stone ages.

however, if you look at the root cause of the problems in this area since the second world war, you'll see that the root cause of all problems is ISRAEL.

Your simplistic PEACE NOW is really what triggered my response. There needs to be justice and accountability for peace to take shape. unfortunately, with knuckleheads assuming power they're not giving peace a chance.

Yes HA stuffed up big time, but if you agree with the israeli response, which is nothing but a murderous collective punishment over reaction, then i think you'll need to reality check.

solve the palestinian problem, you'll have peace. Take care and duck safely.

Israeli... we have many many sympathisers but not equal to your superpowerful supporter of yours (the one with the veto).

israel is a reality you can't ignore whether we like it or not. fair enough?

also, i am not asking for peace under my conditions. it seems to me you have selective arguments. Israel wants peace under its conditions. the conditions that you have offered previously are nothing but scraps.

nervertheless, if you are arguing that current israeli reaction is fair then if we follow the israli logic, then the only people that will be left are the ones that hold the most powerful gun.

so the bus is a mistake? how about the other 80? and the future ones?

Israel is humane because it drops pamphlets before it flattens whole buildings? how about if the occupants don't even support HA?

there has to be accountability whether it's HA or israel. i firmly believe in fixing the root cause. Resolve the palestinian problem, you have peace.

Dear Bob

My name is Jonathan Samash, and I'm Israeli (Still there? Good. We move on):

I'm a reporter for Maariv Newspaper, and write mostly aboout cultural issues. My next article is about Lebanese Blogs in these hard times. In an epoque of a frenzied media that takes any opportunity to widen ideological gaps between "the little people"" and crown the neo "bad guy", I was thrilled to read your witty, sinister, in-you-face comments as a young Lebanese, who could be my close friend if the powers that be would stop the perpetual fucking up of any hope for the future.

I was wondering if we could have a short online chat in which you would comment (or elaborate ,or condemn) on the events of the last 7 days. The floor, as they say, will be all yours, and I assure you that nothing will be ommitted or added to your opinions. You can reach me at:
yonismash@gmail.com

In any case, as a representative of the sensible, peace wishing, humane Israelis, I wish you and your countrymen safety and calm.

Salaam, my brother
