Sanity!
In the last two days big demonstrations have been going on in Down Town Beirut. They started on Friday, with a slightly bigger demonstration than the 8th of March 2005, when Hezbollah went down to the street to thank Syria, but smaller than March the 14th, when the current majority (Hariri, Joumblatt, and Geagea; in addition to Aoun who is now allied with Hezbollah) marched to the streets and were able to kick the Syrians out of Lebanon.
This time numbers are meaningless, the country is split down the middle (give or take 5%). The two parties must understand that no one can win, and the only solution is a compromise.
Unfortunately, Hezbollah and their allies are playing a very dangerous game. They are making the same mistake Israel made in its last war against Lebanon, they went into a battle with unachievable goals, assuming that they will topple the government. And the longer Siniora’s government hold on to power, the more pressure they will have to apply, and the harder it will be for the army and the Internal Security Forces to keep control of the two very very angry streets.
The first day was peaceful, until Hezbollah tried to encircle the Government headquarter (the Saray), then the 14th of March supporters started to stir and Siniora called the army and informed them that he will not be able to hold them from breaking the siege themselves. The army intervened, they contacted Hezbollah and the siege was lifted.
Just imagine what could have happened if the 14th of March protesters went down and lifted the siege themselves…
Today, a big scuffle happened in an adjacent area to where the demonstrations are taking place. Several people were injured and the army had to fire in the air to stop the small riot (It is interesting to note that three Syrians were caught hurling stones from the roof top of one of a building)
This madness must stop! Sooner rather than later, because the next scuffle might be that small sparks that leads to the big explosion. The two sides are raising the stakes, raising their rhetoric, and everyday they become less capable to back down and a compromise becomes harder to reach…
We urgently need a return to sanity! Now, before it is too late!

I hope deep in your heart you know that what is happening is not good.Just the fact that you are using a threatining tone,is very alarming..Due to today's first death,we should keep quit and pray to Allah,to all his prophets and messengers,in these days were some of us are about to celebrate christmas and others are getting ready for Eid adha,that we all come to our senses and stop before it becomes another Iraq,then we will all be loosers my friend,and it won't matter who's the majority or the minority.PEACE
Rabie I can't beleive what conversation u had with anonymous on the previous article. If u r representing the shiaa and he is representing the sunni so we lebanese r in big trouble. if on a blog u can't control your selves and start cursing each other so defenitly in real life u will try to fight, so it is WAR. is this what u want??? it is not what i want. Please grow up get wiser and calmer, think before u talk , wright and act. don't get impulsif and don't follow your leaders blindly. both of u have leaders u beleive in, fine no problem just allow yourself to criticise sometimes their actions cause your leaders r humain and of course they do mistakes we all do and no problem to say yes they should have done this instead of that ect....it doesn't mean u have lost your leaders or your image. Rabie i am sure that u and anonymous love lebanon as much as i do but we think differently, and we have to accept that we shouldn't impose our ideas on others, for me the best way to achieve this is democratie. for every issue we vote and the majority do what they want so of course the minority will be sad but they should accept. In democratie there will be no 100% happy persons there will always be unhappy ones it is not perfect but it is the closest to perfection . so sometimes i will be happy sometimes i will not but i will accept that, we all should . and Rabie when Bob said street will lead to violence u said u have leaders strong enough to control and 14 march they don't, so if u really beleive so this is why u shouldn't accept the streets cause 14 march will make problems and we all will be in trouble is this what u want?? it doesn't mater who is strong enough or not the results is what counts and if the results r war we shouldn't allow it, so the strongest should act smarter and not give others the chance to make stupidity that will lead to disaster. U know i am not with 14 neither 8 march I am just with lebanon and i refuse war and violence i beleive we have a problem in both sides and the streets will lead to disaster so there r better ways to solves our problems. I also agree that as u said there is a lot of thieves in our governement and we always had thieves, but to solve these problems violence is not the way we should be strong and united , and we have to know that it takes times to solves all these problems and now being in the streets is waisting our time and making the problems even worse . On the other hand I would like to tell u that I don't want lebanon to become like iran where they impose on women chadoor or like syria where people live in fear constantly , in some aspects i would like lebanon to be as strong as developed european countries (democratie,economicly, infrastructures, cleanliness of the streets )but in someothers i will definetly like lebanon to be like lebanon only unique beautifull free country . and to achieve that there should be a strong president a strong goverment and democratie to get these 2, then there should be only one strong army with no others then the army having arms , cause i haven't seen a strong country with an army and a resistance stronger then her army (and arms with palestinians,) and talking about that the arms make others affraid and they get ideas of violence and they don't feel secure so what for no need for that , the chibaa farms we will get them if we have a strong goverment capable of negotiations , again no need for violence to get chibaa farms haram those people in chibaa and the villages next to chibaa that will die to free chibaa!!!!
U know it is a circle and we have to solve all these problems to live in peace and we have to do it together especialy us young women and men who want peace we have to say no to our leaders no for violence, no for war, no for cursing each other, no for hatered feelings, yes for acceptance,yes for tolerance, yes for love, yes for peace and yes yes yes for LEBANON!!!!!!!

Yes rabie definitly saniora should bring in his enemies, i never said saniora is THE perfect man no he has as u say + and -, we all do .but we have to put everything in a balance and see how many + there is and how many- , and u know in 10 months lahoud is out and so is saniora so is it worth it all the damage we r having now??? can't we wait just a little?? balance the + and the - and tell me.....
as for iran it is excatly my point there is no job for u there !! so why would we like to be allied to a country like that?? we should ally ourselves to succesfull country (knowing that there is no perfect country), but to be allied to doesn't mean obey blindly, and of course they will use us but we can use them too, this is life, give and take .
as for war in my balance the -(disadvantages) are way much more important than the + ( advantages) so i will never never choose war, for i cherish life very very much ,mine and others and one life gone will never be back it is not worth it and all the money that we will get after the war will not be enough to rebuild the damage of war, and u know time is precious too we will spend years in war and we will be old and our youth has passed for nothing and u know at the end to end the war they will have to sit and talk so why don't they do it now?? no need for all these protests and demonstrations these r violent messages that get others to be violent too,and that will lead to war.
rabie i hope then in few years u will be able to come back rich to your free and peacfull country cause if we will have war there will be no country for u to come back to, lebanon will be dead.

thanks rabie my family is fine (till now?!!)i am just worried of our futur but we will keep hoping ....i am happy that though we think differently we could meet in some points, see when we talk it is better i hope our politicians can do that. and u r right we have to ally to our neiboughrs but syria i can't really trust i am afraid of their interference may be i am wrong and we should give it a try. iran i am afraid of their extremism but also i might be wrong and best scenario we can ally to all the countries why not? the more u have friends the better it is . and by the way i don't like skyscarpers i have phobia of the altitude, i love lebanese old houses with stones and red roof i dream of building one one day when i 'll have enough money and peace in my country.
This is BS. there is no 50-50 give or take 5% most Lebanese don't want this government just accept it it is a fact.
But I'll go further, even if it was the case (50 50) in any democratic country when so many people are antagonised the government would have long resigned.
