Idiocy has reached new heights!

While the region is being racked by deep transformations and upheavals, our esteemed Lebanese politicians are bickering fighting over the scraps of scraps…

Some, like Hezbollah and Aoun, are congratulating themselves considering that the US-Iranian deal announces their ultimate victory, while March 14, or what s left of it, are bidding their time convinced that the importance of our small “piece of paradise” is undeniable and the powers that be give a damn!

This might come as a surprise but Lebanon is currently so low on the international agenda that it is practically invisible. All what is required is for the current semblance of status-quo to continue with minimal bloodshed.

No you haven’t won, the price for the “deal of the century” might be Lebanon and it might not!  It might be the head of Hezbollah or not! Fact is the deal is still in the making, and if I were Hezbollah, I would hide in a corner and stand still until the storm has passed.

Meanwhile, no white knight will save March 14, not the US, France, and not even the KSA. Grow a spine, get your act together, and for all what you hold dear STOP betting on Joumblatt!!!

However, I fully know that my words are wasted, like the last sun rays before sunset, idiocy has gripped this land so tight that only blood and more blood is the only future I see…

A year ago Hezbollah thugs invaded Beirut, killing, maiming and burning... They occupied the city, terrorized its people and shut down its press...

Yet They failed. A year past, Saad Hariri is still here, and so is Joumblatt and the rest of the Cedar revolution. Moreover, they even denied them their goal: All what it would have taken was for Saad Hariri to call the banners, and hell would have broken loose. The army would have split and the country would have plunged into an never ending civil war (in the days following may 7, most of the senior army officers close to march 14 presented their resignation because the army command failed to defend the people of Beirut. It took Saad Hariri all his clout to change their mind and convince them to return to their post, in order to preserve the army unity.)

A year has past, and the country is poised for another test: the parliamentary election. Meanwhile, Hezbollah has proven once and for all that they are just another militia, and all of Nassrallah promises that he Will never turn his guns against other Lebanese have proven false, and his other promises about his party ultimate goals stooping at defending Lebanon has also been shattered when the Egyptian caught a Hezbollah cells planning terror attack in Egypt...

The madness must end!

I am sick and tired of this endless circle of bloody violence. I am sick of the self serving, righteous rhetoric that both sides are using. I am sick of so called "resistance" movement and supporters, who care less about the welfare of there people, than about their divine victories, that leaves thousands dead in their wake. The madness must stop, and it will never do unless the moderates, the peace loving people, from both sides raise their voice and act...

Amid all this bloodshed, nothing reeked more of hypocrisy and double talk than Nassrallah. He launched a full blown attack against Egypt and the rest of the moderate Arabs, almost forgetting about Israel.

What is worse is his call for the Egyptian army to revolt and attack Israel and its own government, to help their brother in Gaza. But wonder of all wonders, Nassrallah asked OTHERS to revolt and attack, while he sits in his cozy little bunker hoarding his 40000 missiles, watching his allies in Gaza being blown to pieces, accusing Egypt and the rest of the Arabs of inaction!!! What a perfect text book example of hypocrisy and what an ally!!!

So Hezbollah needs to act and show us how much you care about the welfare of the Palestinian, before going berserk against the rest of the Arab. But maybe their weapons will only be used against fellow Lebanese, like they did on the 7th of May, but maybe they are waiting for their orders from Iran?

In the end, no one cares about the civilians in Gaza, neither Israel or even less Hamas and Hezbollah. Once more the Palestinians are paying the price of the struggles of regional and world powers on their land.

What is brewing in Syria?

In the last couple of months Bashar Assad’s totalitarian regime have been subject to a series of high profile assassinations. First, Hezbollah’s military operations commander, Imad Mughnieh, who was killed in one of Damascus most secure neighborhoods. Then Mohammad Suleiman, Assad’s military right hand, was killed in his sumptuous villas on Tartous sea side.

When Mughnieh was first killed, my first impression was that the Mossad (Israel foreign intelligence service) was behind the assassination. But I felt that if we witnessed a certain rapprochement between Israel and Syria after the killing, it might means that the Syrian were somehow involved. And without much surprise, two countries started peace negotiations a few months after Mughnieh assassination.

So in view of all these developments, several scenarios were put forth, to explain Suleiman assassination: he was killed by the Iranian/Hezbollah for his involvement in Mughnieh termination, a scenario that I do not favor. Or it was an internal job caused by some inter-fighting between several Syrian clans (maybe Assad’s and Ashaf Shoukat’s). Or maybe the Mossad is once more settling some old scores...

Never the less that who did is less important than the act itself, and its immediate implications. Syria is witnessing a power struggle and there is a hidden power shift currently at work. Who will come on top is the question that should be asked.

Hezbollah and Chebbaa farms

In 2000 when Israel withdrew from South Lebanon, Hezbollah decided to continue its resistance against Israel's occupation. So they dug up old maps of a 50 km2 strip of land called Chebbaa farms and decided that it was part of Lebanon.

However, that piece of land being under the control of Syria in 1967 it was occupied by Israel and considered Syrian. So Israel refused to give up this small plot...eight years forward, after one war, several clashes, thousands of casualties, the land is still "occupied” by Israel and Hezbollah is still trying to free it.

A week ago the US secretary Condoleezza Rice visited Lebanon and declared the US intention to work on placing Chebbaa under UN control until its border is firmly marked and placed under the Syrian or Lebanese sovereignty. (Syria to keep the resistance going in Lebanon always refused to deliver the necessary paperwork to the UN to award Lebanon sovereignty)

Lo and behold Hezbollah officials bristled with indignation, denouncing this move as a ploy to end the resistance and strip its weapons… in other words Hezbollah was against a full Israeli withdrawal from supposedly Lebanese lands because this will end their divine resistance.

A Lebanese paradox par excellence. A resistance that encourages an occupier “occupation” and attacks any effort at freeing the land, maybe Hezbollah has an exclusive dealership on freeing lands…

Meanwhile the political crisis drags on, slowly rotting the stats and its institutions away; at least we have a president. And this is what driving General Aoun (Hezbollah staunchest ally) even madder.

"I am proud to be part of the Wilayat el Fakih"

Nassrallah was very adamant in admitting that he was part of Iran's politico-religious hegemony, saying outloud that he was " proud to be part of the Wilayat el Fakih" But, he claimed that this same supreme authority wanted only the best for Lebanon and insisted on a multicultural and diverse country.

A simple question comes to mind... what would happen when this divine authority no longer desire a multicultural, democratic and free Lebanon? Nassrallah himself answered that question: he is first and foremost part of Iran's hegemony and he will follow it regardless of Lebanon's interests. Further evidences were abundantly witnessed in Beirut's street when Hezbollah went on a murderous rampage.

Meanwhile, the truce brokered in Doha seems to be holding. But the volcano that erupted two weeks ago is far from dead. Too many issues were left unresolved, and too much blood has been spilled. And most of all, it seems that Hezbollah has suffered its first military set back in years.

The Druze in Mount Lebanon fought Hezbollah militiamen to a stand still, inflicting heavy casualties (Nassrallah admitted 14 death, the toll is rumored to be much higher and includes two top ranking field officers...)

Everyday brings more tales of the fierce battles that raged in the mountains, when Hezbollah was forced to use artillery and mortars to fend off the fierce defense of Joumblatt's men and even Hezbollah own druze allies who refused to see their homes overrun by Nassrallah's militiamen.

In the mean time, despite all the venomous rhetoric, threats and accusations hurled at PM Siniora and all the pressure Nassrallah exerted, PM Siniora is back in office with a strong President holding the fragile peace together. And until further notice, Lebanon is a democracy and in such a system there is only one method of gaining political control...elections...

Beirut has fallen…

Beirut has fallen under the yoke of Nassrallah militiamen. A victory some are calling it. Hordes of militiamen running in the streets shooting at civilians and residential areas. TVs, newspapers and magazines are being closed down. Checkpoints are being built. Welcome to the new age, the age of Hezbollah iron grip!

Dream on! Hundreds or even thousands of militiamen cannot occupy a city. Pitiful street thugs will never close down free press and Tvs. Dream on, for today is the start of the end of what was once called a resistance, but now is only a milita, specialized in terror and blackmail, holding a whole city, and economy of the whole country hostages for some political gains.

Dream on! A battle is lost but the war rages on, where it should in our hearts in our minds and in our faith in a free, democratic and secular LEBANON!

Dream on Mr. Nassrallah…

Nassrallah's questions...

Nassrallah has been asking why several Arab states have asked their citizens not to travel to Lebanon, he wonders why they have taken such harsh measures! The answer is simple Mr. Nassrallah, after threating with open war with Israel and spreading chaos and violence in the streets, who in his right mind will come to Lebanon...

Then he goes into a long convoluted and quasi-philosophical exploration of why Israel will be destroyed soon, claiming that his victory in 2006 is the herald of that end. Then in defense of his upcoming "open war" with Israel, in retaliation of its assassination of Imad Mughnieh, he claims that there was no official cease fire yet (only a cessation of hostilities) therefore the war did not end and this only another act in a long play. So, excuse me Mr. Nassrallah but how can you claim to win a war that has not ended yet?

Meanwhile, Nassrallah can jump to conclusion and immediately accuse Israel of killing Mughnieh, with not a single shred of evidence. But when 14 March blame Syria for an assassination it is an unforgivable act of betrayal and immediately rejected and replaced by complicated conspiracy theories. Ah the lovely double standards of Hezbollah!

Finally, it is interesting to observe how Nassrallah treat the Lebanese army compared to his dealings with Syria's regime. When last month riots, erupted in Beirut southern suburb and seven people were killed, Nassrallah demanded an immediate and swift investigation and gave the army an ultimatum of one week to wrap up its investigation.

On the other hand Mughnieh is skilled in Syria and two weeks later no results or indications has been published yet. Meanwhile, Nassrallah expresses his content and admiration of the high professionalism of the Syrian investigation. But I am not surprised. Why would it be different, an underling can only follow his orders and keep silent....

A hammering blow to Hezbollah!

Imad Mughnieh, the elusive fox, the enigmatic top Hezbollah-Iranian revolutionary Guard officials, who some say is the master mind behind Hezbollah’s performance in the 2006 war with Israel, has been killed in Damascus, out of all places in the world.

The killing in itself is a strong message to Hezbollah and Iran. Israel, whom I assume is behind the assassination, is settling its score with Hezbollah, flexing its muscles and polishing the cracked halo of deterrence and power.

Where the assassination occurred is another message, in the middle of Damascus, in an upbeat neighborhood, close to the Syrian Intelligence HQ and to some Iranian facilities. The Israeli message is simple: we can get you wherever you are, whenever we want. Bashar Assad (President of Syria) must be really uncomfortable today…

Moreover, Bashar Assad must be really trying his best to reassure Hezbollah and their bosses (the Iranian) that he had absolutely nothing, and I stress, nothing to do with the assassination, and that he offered all the possible protection to Mughnieh.

Mughnieh was a key figure and his killing will have deep implications to Hezbollah and Iran. A responsible, or a scapegoat, will have to suffer the consequences of this assassination. Assad will try his best to shift the blame from him to Israel or some underlings, for he cannot suffer the wrath of Iran, not at this moment when the Persian wannabe-super-regional-power is his only strong ally.

Finally, let us hope that the anger and blame of Hezbollah and their patron will not fall once again on our country, especially if the party of god launch another war on Israel…

War game!

Now that is what I call a nice little simulation! Yesterday night Hezbollah goons staged a multiple hit and run maneuvers around Beirut, closing on the main road between Down Town and the Airport and closing it down by burning tires and clashing with the army and security forces, then rapidly moving away on scooters to different areas and closing down main roads, burning trash cans with molotov cocktails.

The army response was swift and efficient, and the road was reopened rapidly. However on a fast scale and over an extended period these tactics could prove difficult to counter.

So awaiting the full fledge uprising that Mr. Nassrallah is preparing, I think yesterday was a foretaste of the dark future Hezbollah is preparing for Lebanon.

Meanwhile, Nassrallah is busy collecting and archiving the hands and heads and pieces of flesh of Israeli soldiers, eagerly awaiting for the next batch of Lebanese remains that will be laid at his feet’s when Hezbollah launch their promised uprising…

More Hezbollah threats...

Mr. Nassrallah is back to issuing his empty threats, warning that if 14 March do not accept all the opposition’s demands they will... “ACT”

Frankly, I am sick and tired of Hezbollah’s threats. I considers that 14 March have given more than its share of concessions. Let me refresh your memory: although March 14 have an absolute majority in the parliament but it agreed on a consensual president. They even accepted the army chief, General Suleiman’s, who was considered closer to the opposition than to March 14. And finally they even agreed to give up the absolute majority in the council of Ministers ( out of a total of 30 ministers: giving 7seven to the president, 10 to the opposition and only 14 to the parliamentary majority)

But no, Nassrallah wants more, and if he doesn’t get it he is threatening the Lebanese with civil unrest and other “divine” surprises. Yet five minutes later in his interview he claims that the opposition interests are only for Lebanon and its welfare!!!

I am simply fed up, and to paraphrase Joumblatt’s stament to Nassrallah: You want a blocking third in the government than you will have to take it by force! Over our dead bodies!

When Nassrallah admitted that Hezbollah was a militia!

Nassrallah latest angry and hateful speech was a sign of Hezbollah’s bankruptcy. Nassrallah did not even propose any effective or feasible solution. He just announced that he did not accept a presidential election by an absolute majority, or Siniora’s government temporarily taking up the president’s power.

Nassrallah could not or did not wish to find a solution, instead he spent his speech insulting the 14 March coalition, which in turn resulted in a scalding response by Walid Joumblatt, who for the first time, since Nassrallah emerged on the political scene, practically insulted him!

Meanwhile, Nassrallah haven’t even named his candidate, maybe he is waiting till after the election (sic). This whole thing reminds me of the crisis to pass the International Tribunal; Nassrallah explained that he had several important amendments on the tribunal bylaws. Yet he never published these changes or even submitted them in secret to March 14 or any mediator.

But all that pale considering Nassrallah huge mistake: he admitted that Hezbollah was a militia. Let me explain: in his speech he declared “they only want a president to implement UNSCR 1559 … and I repeat even if the whole world comes, they will not be able to implement the article concerning Hezbollah in UNSCR 1559.”

Ah… what he said is pretty clear, no one can implement the clause concerning Hezbollah in UNSCR 1559, and the problem is that there is no clause concerning Hezbollah in 1559!!!! The only disbanding mentioned in the resolution is those of MILITIAS!!!

So Nassrallah has finally admitted that his organization is just another militia...

PS: Here is a partial transcript of the resolution if you want to read it all head over here:

Resolution 1559 (2004)

Adopted by the Security Council at its 5028th meeting, on 2 September 2004

The Security Council,

1. Reaffirms its call for the strict respect of the sovereignty, territorial

integrity, unity, and political independence of Lebanon under the sole and exclusive authority of the Government of Lebanon throughout Lebanon;

2. Calls upon all remaining foreign forces to withdraw from Lebanon;

3. Calls for the disbanding and disarmament of all Lebanese and non-Lebanese militias;

4. Supports the extension of the control of the Government of Lebanon over all Lebanese territory;

Hezbollah and the concept of deterence!

Something ain't right with Hezbollah's concept of deterrence. Before the 2006 summer war, Narrallah convinced a large part of the Lebanese people that his 20000 thousands missiles are the greatest deterrent to any Israeli attack against Lebanon, and stressed that Israel would never dare to attack our country as long as he had all these missiles.

Unfortunately, the war proved him wrong... not only his missiles failed to protect Lebanon, but they caused untold destruction, as Israel bombed any missile launch site no matter where it was, and used Hezbollah's missiles as a pretext to continue the war for over a month.

Now fast forward to a few weeks ago, Nassrallah tries, once again, to threaten Israel and us with a big surprise he is preparing for any invading army if they dared attack Lebanon. It seems that it failed too. Because yesterday Hezbollah, breaching UN resolution 1701, and forgoing any common sense, embarked on a large military maneuvers in the area south of the Litani river and controlled by the UNIFIL.

His reason? to send a message to Israel -and his friends!!- that Hezbollah will stop any Israel attack against Lebanon, and these maneuvers are the greatest deterrence to Israel, and will stop it from ever thinking of attacking Lebanon. Maybe threating Israel with a big surprise was not deterrent enough!

Funny thing is, during Hezbollah "divine" maneuvers, the Israeli Air force was freely flying overhead and watching, with interest, the maneuvers aimed to stop them form any further incursions or attacks...Ah irony!

Once again, Nassrallah's deterrence will fail, and will certainly have a catastrophic opposite effect. If Israel was hesitant to launch any attack against the party of god, i think this maneuver will strengthen their resolve and encourage them to launch a large scale attack against Hezbollah.

What can i say? Excellent deterrence strategy Mr. Nassrallah! Keep up the good work, especially that the last destroyed bridges from the summer war have been finally repaired. Just in time!

One year ago...

One year ago, Nassrallah decided to cross the international border between Lebanon and Israel and kidnap two soldiers. Unfortunately, he did not know the consequences of his actions, or so he claimed...

On that day Hezbollah’s supporters were offering Lebanese sweets to passersby, in celebration of the kidnapping. The celebrations did not last long. For at eight PM that day, Israel started a war that lasted for 34 days, bombing and destroying large areas under hezbollah’s control.

After this war a vicious controversy erupted, Hezbollah claimed victory, claiming that Israel failed to accomplish any of its proclaimed results: destroying Hezbollah and returning he soldiers. On the other hand, Israel claimed that Hezbollah’s agenda and capabilities were severely harming because the United Nations peacekeeping forces in the south were bolstered by a factor of ten and Hezbollah main forces retreated behind the UN area of control (south of the litany river). And because of the destruction of most of Hezbollah’s long and medium range missiles and all of their bunkers and reinforcements along the borders, and the death of more than 400 fighters of Nassrallah’s men.

In reality however, nothing changed, both parties lost some and gained some. Meanwhile war drums echo, once more, behind the horizon. I believe that a year ago we only witnessed another battle in a very long war...

Hezbollah's true face!

Another example of Hezbollah’s militia like behaviors…

Yesterday, Hezbollah’s militia intercepted a Police patrol, passing through Beirut’s Southern suburb and the three police officers were disarmed, taken into custody and interrogated by Nassrallah’s men...Several hours later they were release...

Lebanon state is falling...

PS: This information was issued by the Police official press apparatus and was published by most newspapers and news sources in Lebanon, including Tayyar.org website that belongs to Aoun and his party, Hezbollah’s own allies.

Al Manar however totally ignored the events, the spin masters finally ran out of tricks to fool the Lebanese people.

An intresting article

The Arab Commission
By THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN, The New York Times

Hezbollah’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, made a remarkable statement last week. He praised Israel for conducting an inquiry into last year’s war with Hezbollah — an inquiry that accused Prime Minister Ehud Olmert of “serious failure in exercising judgment, responsibility and prudence.”

Mr. Nasrallah was quoted by the BBC as saying Israelis “study their defeat in order to learn from it,” in contrast with the Arab regimes that “do not probe, do not ask, do not form inquiry commissions ... as if nothing has happened.”

One has to be impressed by his honesty, but he did not take it all the way, since the Arab leader who most needs to be probed is Mr. Nasrallah himself. He started the war with Israel, which was a disaster for both sides. If there were an honest Arab League Inquiry Commission into the war, here is what it would say about him:

On July 12, 2006, Hezbollah fighters directed by Mr. Nasrallah abducted two Israeli soldiers and killed eight others in an unprovoked attack across the Lebanon-Israel border, on the pretext of seeking a prisoner exchange. This triggered a war that killed about 1,200 Lebanese and 160 Israelis. After interviewing all relevant parties, the Arab League Commission finds Mr. Nasrallah guilty of a serious failure of judgment, responsibility and prudence — for the following reasons.

1. Mr. Nasrallah demonstrated a total failure to anticipate Israel’s response to his raid. He assumed Israel would carry out the same limited retaliation it had with previous raids. Wrong. He failed to take into account the changed circumstances in Israel. The kidnapping of an Israeli soldier in Gaza a few weeks earlier, plus the fact that a new chief of staff of the Israeli Army, a new prime minister and a new defense minister had just taken office and all felt they were being tested, triggered an enormous Israeli response. Some 1,200 Lebanese died because of this gross error in judgment.

2. In unilaterally launching a war against Israel, without a vote of the Lebanese cabinet — of which Hezbollah is a member — the militia did grievous harm to Lebanon’s fragile democracy and democratization in the Arab world. All the fears that if you let an Islamist party into government it will not respect the rules of the game were fulfilled by Hezbollah.

3. Iran and Syria gave Hezbollah its rockets for their own deterrence. Hezbollah was their long arm to pressure Israel into political compromises and to threaten Israel if it attacked Iran or Syria. By launching all these rockets prematurely, without strategic purpose, Hezbollah has diminished its capability and Syria’s and Iran’s. The commission can’t find a single strategic gain from Mr. Nasrallah’s actions.

4. When the war started, Hezbollah’s fighters were sitting right on the border with Israel, operating freely. This was a real threat to Israel. As a result of the war, Hezbollah was pushed off the border by Israel and, in its place, the U.N. inserted a new peacekeeping force of some 10,000 troops, including a big European contingent, led by France and Italy. Yes, Hezbollah still has fighters in the area, but it has lost its military infrastructure, and can’t attack Israel now without getting embroiled with France and Italy — a huge strategic loss for Hezbollah.

5. Israel had allowed its ground forces to be degraded in order to invest more money in its air force’s ability to deter Iran and into policing the West Bank. Hezbollah’s attack exposed just how degraded Israel’s army had become. As a result, Israel has embarked on a broad upgrade of its military. In any future war Arab armies will meet a much better trained and equipped Israeli force.

6. Hezbollah claims that its Shiite militia, in attacking Israel, was serving the security needs of Lebanon. But Israel’s response to Hezbollah’s attack has resulted in billions of dollars of damage to Lebanese homes, factories and roads, with Shiite areas the worst hit and with zero security benefit to Lebanon.

Lebanon has had to rely on Arab and Iranian charity to rebuild. Israel, by contrast, suffered relatively minor damage and, after the war, its economy enjoyed one of its greatest growth spurts ever, as foreigners invested a record amount in Israel’s high-tech industry.

In sum, Mr. Nasrallah may have won popularity for himself and Hezbollah by fighting Israel. But so what? Today, less than a year after a war that Hezbollah called a “divine” victory, Lebanon is weaker and Israel is stronger. That’s what matters. And that is why, if the Hezbollah leader had any honor, he would resign.

Nassrallah's new face

In the last world war, cities used to have many sirens to warned against any incoming airplanes. So each time the population heard the distinct sound of these sirens they would rush to their hiding places in fear…

Nowadays in Lebanon every time Hezbollah’s leader issue a speech, fear spreads among the Lebanese. Nassrallah speeches filled with anger and threats have become a dreaded event in the already tensed daily life in Lebanon, filled with bomb scares and never ending rumors….

Nassrallah brings nothing new to the table; he keeps on refusing compromises and solutions. He no longer accepts the third plus one of the council of ministers, and unequivocally refused the International Tribunal, claiming it was just a sham to legitimate the already decided upon sentences.

The best we can hope for now is to keep the current deadlock until the next presidential election in September, hoping beyond hope the country’s economic situation holds out that long. I will leave you to imagine the worst, as the anniversary of the start of the Lebanese war -the 13th of April- approaches…

Spin!

It is incredible how easily can Hezbollah’s and its media mouthpiece twist logic and common sense to turn any situation to their benefit. In PR jargon this is called spin, and I have to admit that Hezbollah’s media arm is a “spin master” of the highest order!

When Ha’aretz printed an article about Olmert testimony to the commission investigating the war, in which Israel’s PM declared that he discussed and reviewed plans to attack Lebanon almost four months before the summer’s war.

Immediatly, Hezbollah’s media outlets pounced on the article, circulating it widely, claiming that Olemrt’s testimony vindicated their own verison of events and discredited all those who accused Hezbollah of being the one responsible for the war and its tragedies.

For Hezbollah has been claiming, since the end of the war, that Israel was planning the attack on Lebanon months before July, and the war would have happened whether Hezbollah abducted the two soldiers for not! In an effort to placate all the anger and blame that targeted Hezbollah and accused it of being responsible of starting the war.

However Hezbollah missed or purposely omitted the rest of Olmert testimony, the article states that it is true that months before the war, Israel’s PM reviewed plans to attack Lebanon IF, and I stress, only IF Hezbollah kidnapped any Israeli soldiers! In view of the previous failed attempts to abduct soldiers in 2005.

It is a small two letters word, but in this case it is crucial. What Al-Manar TV failed to point out is that if Hezbollah did not kidnap those two soldiers the war would not have happened, neither in the summer or in the autumn as Hezbollah claimed!

In conclusion, Israel war, whether it was planned before hand or not, was directly caused by the kidnapping of the two soldiers. So the responsibility of all the killing, destruction and tragedies lay squarely at Hezbollah feet! And if Nassrallah did not give the order to kidnap those soldiers, Israel would not have attacked Lebanon, and all those innocent civilians would still be alive.

Two years ago

Two years ago on March 8 2005, 22 days after MP Rafik Hariri was assassinated, thousands of Hezbollah followers marched on Riyad Solh Square in Down Town Beirut to thank Syria.

A date that will become the "pro-Syrian" political camp's brand, the infamous 8 March against the 14 March (the brand of the political faction who refused Syrian hegemony).

Maybe as a reminder, that Square is unfortunately occupied by hundreds of Hezbollah tents nowadays.

For what exactly I still do not know, maybe for 30 years of occupation, or for the thousands and thousands of Lebanese citizens killed by the Syrian Army, or maybe for the hundreds of Lebanese still in its prisons.

That rally was followed a week later, on 14 March 2005, by a huge demonstration of Lebanese, who demand an international investigation in the assassination of PM Rafik Hariri and an immediate withdrawal of all Syrian troops from Lebanon.

Two years since that day, Hezbollah and its allies are still thanking Syria, its President and its military intelligence and army…

For me if I had to thank anyone, I would thank all the Lebanese who struggled, bled and died to free our country of all foreign occupations and oppressions.
